Location

The area

It is expected that Obzor and Byala, situated only 4 kilometres from each other, will link up within a few years. As part of this development, Obzor’s and Byala’s magnificent beaches will be joined to form the longest beach in Bulgaria, stretching over 11 kilometres (7 miles).

Today, the only thing that separates the two towns are some steep ground that runs all the way down to the beach. The plan is to replace excavate the area in order to connect the two towns with sandy beach.

Byala (spelt either with a “y” or an “i”) means ‘white’ in Bulgarian, named after its magnificent white slopes that lead from the town down to the beach. It is also one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria and, perched nearly 26 metres above sea level, it enjoys a very clear and unique view over the Black Sea.

A point to note is that this difference in height between beach and town means that the area is less well suited for walking-impaired people. However, for the resort, the slope is much smaller and there are stairs leading down to the beach which, soon, will be supplemented by an elevator.

Right now the area around Byala is undergoing positive development which will include, among other things, a water-world, horseback riding, hunting, various sports, health spas and some very good golf courses.

Byala has long been known for its wine and you can find several charming vineyards nearby, where you can enjoy an afternoon wine tasting.

The beach

With its pure white sand, the child-friendly beach (no tides) invites you to have a good time. It feels like standing by a lagoon surrounded by majestic white cliffs which echo the sound of the waves beneath them.

Both the unique atmosphere and the child-friendly beach make Byala the perfect place for families seeking a relaxed day on the beach.

The town

Byala has roughly 3500 inhabitants. The shops are open all year round but the town is busiest during the summer. Everything can be found in Byala raging from needlework to copies of branded goods, delicious spices, local honey and lots of other things.

Byala is slightly smaller than Obzor but has great potential for further development in the coming years. Currently there are 85 new building projects under construction but, unlike SunSiteEstate’s property, most of these are inland.

Going out

In the cosy streets of Byala you will find small bars and cafés. Beer costs the same as bottle water and a bottle of beer costs about 50p.

Situated between the two cities Buorgas (66 kilometres) and Varna (48 kilometres) Byala is a good starting point for many exciting excursions further afield.

Transportation

There is bus that runs along the main road to and from the big cities. You can also use the local taxicabs but always remember to agree the fare in advance.
