The area

The region around Obzor is known as the Bulgarian Riviera. The area is undergoing a controlled and positiv development getting among other things a water world, options for horseback riding and fishing, hunting, sports, relaxation and a very short distance to golf courses.

The Bulgarians prefer to take their holidays in Obzor. The city is located on a slope of natural beauty facing towards a grassed plateau 65 metres above sea level.

For many years Obzor has been known as an attractive camping area. Some years ago this area was parcelled out to many new constructions. Several projects are already finished and others are under construction. The town has had many names; Navlohos, Helipolis, Tempuis Jovis (Temple of Jupiter) and in 1935 the town was renamed Obzor.

According to the Law of Bulgaria it is not allowed to build during the holiday season from May to October. This means that you will not be bothered by noises from machines, cranes, trucks and the like when you spend your holiday in Obzor.

The beach

One of the best sand beaches in Bulgaria is found in Obzor. The beach stretches over 7 kilometres alongside the beautiful bay and is a perfect choice for those who want to relax and enjoy life on the beach. Surfing, waterskiing and other exciting activities are also in walking distance of Obzor.

The town Obzor

Obzor town with its 4000 inhabitants gives a totally different impression of Bulgaria than the other bigger seaside resort along the coast of the Black Sea. It is incredible that Obzor has preserved its rural idyll with a town square, small shops, bakeries and a bunch of charming restaurants. There is a peaceful and rural atmosphere in Obzor.

Go out

A dinner for two adults and two children costs around 150 DKK. You will have to expect that the menu card can be in Bulgarian and that the waiters only speak a little English – it may give you some interesting culinary experiences. However it is not “dangerous” to give it a try. The food in Bulgaria is not strong – but naturally looks a bit different from what we are use to.

The restaurants often serve pork, chicken and rice wrapped in vine leafs. In the evening you can experience Bulgarian folk dance on the square by the fountain. Beside the fountain you will also find the lovely playground for the children.

Transportation

Situated between the two airport cities Buorgas (65 kilometres) and Varna (50 kilometres) Obzor is a good starting point for many exciting excursions.
